CLAT 2027 Exam Date — Schedule & Important Dates

Complete timeline of CLAT 2027 — registration, admit card, exam day, results, and counselling schedule.

CLAT 2027 Confirmed Date

The CLAT 2027 UG examination is expected to be conducted in December 2027 by the Consortium of National Law Universities. While the exact date is typically announced 4-6 months before the exam, the Consortium has consistently held the exam in the first or second week of December in recent years.

The CLAT examination is conducted once a year for undergraduate admissions. Unlike some competitive exams that offer multiple attempts per year, CLAT gives you one shot annually — which makes thorough preparation and strategic planning absolutely critical.

Note: The official CLAT 2027 date will be announced by the Consortium of NLUs on their official website (consortiumofnlus.ac.in). We will update this page as soon as the official notification is released. Bookmark this page and check back regularly.

The exam was conducted on the following dates in previous years for reference:

CLAT 2027 Registration Process

Registering for CLAT is a straightforward online process. Here is a step-by-step guide to ensure you complete your registration without any issues:

Step 1: Create Your Account

Visit the official CLAT website (consortiumofnlus.ac.in) and click on "Apply Online". You will need to provide a valid email address and mobile number to create your account. An OTP will be sent for verification. Use a personal email address that you will have access to for the next 12 months — all communication regarding admit cards, results, and counselling will be sent here.

Step 2: Fill the Application Form

The application form requires the following details:

  • Personal details: Full name (as on Class 10 certificate), date of birth, gender, nationality, category (General/SC/ST/OBC/PWD/NRI)
  • Contact details: Address, phone number, email
  • Educational qualification: Class 12 details (board, year of passing, percentage/CGPA), or expected year of passing for appearing students
  • Preferred exam centre: You can select up to 4 cities in order of preference. Choose cities where you are comfortable traveling on the exam day.
  • NLU preferences: Rank all 24 NLUs in order of your preference for counselling. This is very important — seat allotment during counselling follows your preference order.

Step 3: Upload Documents

  • Recent passport-size photograph (JPEG, 10-200 KB)
  • Scanned signature (JPEG, 4-100 KB)
  • Category certificate (if applicable)
  • Disability certificate (if applicable)

Step 4: Pay Application Fee

CategoryApplication Fee
General / OBC / NRIRs. 4,000
SC / ST / BPL / PWDRs. 3,500

Payment can be made via net banking, credit card, debit card, or UPI. After successful payment, download and save a copy of your confirmation page.

Step 5: Submit & Download Confirmation

After payment, review all details one final time and submit. Download the confirmation page and save both a digital and printed copy. You will need your CLAT application number for downloading the admit card and during counselling.

Pro Tip: Do not wait until the last date to register. Server traffic is extremely heavy in the final 2-3 days, and technical glitches can prevent successful submission. Register within the first two weeks of the registration window opening.

CLAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Before registering, ensure you meet the following eligibility requirements for the CLAT 2027 UG programme (5-year integrated law degree):

Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for CLAT UG as of CLAT 2024 onwards. This is a significant change from earlier years when there was an age cap. Students of any age who have passed or are appearing for Class 12 can apply.

Educational Qualification

CategoryMinimum Marks in Class 12
General / OBC / NRI / PWD (General)45%
SC / ST40%

Important Notes on Eligibility:

  • Students appearing for Class 12 board exams in 2027 are eligible to apply. They must provide their mark sheet at the time of admission.
  • Percentage is calculated based on the aggregate of all subjects or the best of 4/5 subjects, as applicable for the respective board.
  • There is no restriction on the stream — Science, Commerce, Humanities, or any other stream students can apply.
  • Students from all recognized boards (CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, IB, IGCSE) are eligible.
  • NRI candidates have separate quotas in most NLUs. Check individual NLU prospectuses for NRI seat availability and fee structure.

Number of Attempts

There is no restriction on the number of attempts. You can appear for CLAT as many times as you wish, provided you meet the educational qualification criteria. Many successful candidates have appeared for the exam 2-3 times before securing their desired NLU.

Exam Day Tips

The CLAT exam day can be stressful, but proper planning eliminates most anxiety. Here are essential tips from our 8+ years of experience preparing students:

Before the Exam

  • Visit your exam centre the day before — Know the exact location, parking availability, and entry points. Many centres are in large universities or schools with multiple buildings. Arriving at the wrong building costs you precious mental energy.
  • Prepare your documents the night before — Admit card (2 printed copies), valid photo ID (Aadhaar/school ID), water bottle (transparent), and a pen (black ballpoint). Place everything in a clear ziplock bag.
  • Sleep early — Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep. No last-minute studying. Your brain performs significantly better when well-rested. Research consistently shows that students who sleep well before exams outperform those who do last-minute cramming.
  • Eat a balanced breakfast — Something familiar that gives you sustained energy. Avoid heavy, oily food or trying new cuisines on exam day.

During the Exam

  • Read the instructions carefully — Spend the first 2-3 minutes reading all instructions on the question paper. Verify the total number of questions and sections.
  • Time management is king — Allocate approximately 48 seconds per question. If a question is taking more than 90 seconds, mark it and move on. Come back to it if you have time at the end.
  • Attempt Quantitative Techniques first — It is the smallest section (13-17 questions) and the most straightforward. Finishing it quickly gives you confidence and saves time for the longer passages in other sections.
  • Do not get stuck on one passage — If a passage in Legal or Logical Reasoning seems confusing, skip the entire passage (not just one question) and move to the next. Come back with fresh eyes later.
  • Mark uncertain answers — Use the question paper to mark questions you are unsure about. In the last 10 minutes, review these first.
  • Manage negative marking wisely — If you can eliminate 2 out of 4 options, attempt the question. The expected value of guessing between 2 options (+1 x 0.5 = 0.5 and -0.25 x 0.5 = -0.125, net = +0.375) is strongly positive.

After the Exam

  • Do not discuss answers immediately — If you are appearing for AILET/SLAT too, post-exam discussions create unnecessary anxiety and confusion.
  • Check the answer key — The Consortium releases the provisional answer key within 2-3 days. Calculate your approximate score.
  • File objections if needed — If you believe any answer in the provisional key is incorrect, you can file an objection within the given window (usually 3-5 days).
